In a disturbing turn of events in Lower Manhattan, a 29-year-old woman was attacked while riding the northbound No. 3 train; she sustained multiple slash wounds from a man allegedly attempting to steal her cellphone. According to ABC7NY, the assault occurred just after 11:10 p.m. Wednesday at the Wall Street stop, where the attacker, last seen wearing a blue face mask, and a gray backpack, fled the scene, and as of now, authorities have not made any arrests in relation to this crime.
The victim of the subway attack endured slashes to her left arm, left elbow, back and fingers, before being rushed to Bellevue Hospital, her condition was stable, a silver lining in an otherwise grim assault that has eluded NYPD’s grasp. On a separate note, notwithstanding the lack of progress in the aforementioned case, ABC7NY reports an arrest has been made in a distinct stabbing incident at the Eighth Avenue and West 23rd Street station in Chelsea, where 21-year-old Carlos Rivera is facing charges, including attempted murder.
Surveillance images of the suspect in the Wall Street subway slasher case have been released by the police in hopes that the public might aid in capturing the assailant. As stated in NBC New York, the woman experienced lacerations to her arm, elbow, both hands, and back, yet is expected to recover from her harrowing ordeal; community members with any valuable information are implored to step forward and contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
While felony assaults in transit have seen an increase of 7.4% compared to the previous year, robberies have, interestingly, experienced a decline of 8.8% as reported by ABC7NY.
