The City of Woodstock has officially announced the appointment of Melissa Sigmund as the new Community Development Director, set to take office on September 8. Holding a substantial 18 years of experience in municipal land use planning, Sigmund is prepared to assume her new role with a history of leadership positions under her belt. In her most recent position as Assistant Planning Director for the Town of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, she handled staff management, guided strategic planning efforts, and commandeered significant projects like the 2040 Community Vision Land Use Plan, as per the City of Woodstock's release.
Sigmund, having also functioned as Acting Planning Director during certain times, worked closely with town leadership and elected officials. Her professional journey includes tenure with the Town of Holly Springs, NC, and a decade's rise through various planning positions within the City of Peoria, Arizona. With responsibilities that spanned across several fields including historic preservation and zoning administration, her experience is diverse and comprehensive. She also integrated technology into planning operations, which was monitored by overseeing officials.
An educational foundation backs Sigmund’s expertise, with her holding a Master of Public Administration from the University of Delaware and a Bachelor of Science in International, Resource, and Consumer Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her accreditation includes memberships with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and certification as a Zoning Official with the North Carolina Association of Zoning Officials.
The expectations for Woodstock’s future are notably high with Sigmund on board. "We are thrilled to welcome Melissa to the City of Woodstock," said City Manager Jeff Moon in a statement obtained by the City of Woodstock's news portal. "Her proven leadership, technical expertise, and collaborative approach will be instrumental in guiding responsible growth while preserving our community’s character and quality of life."
