The year-long search for Calvin Jones, a Brooklyn Heights father of three, has come to a tragic end as authorities found his remains in a Cleveland ravine. Jones, also known as 'Bub', was last seen alive on August 20, 2024, distributing pizzas for the local Georgio’s Pizza on Harvard Avenue. News 5 Cleveland reports the 38-year-old was a beloved figure, preparing to celebrate his daughter's milestones before his unexplained disappearance.
Following almost a year of tireless effort, spanning the realms of waters and land, the family of Jones was haunted by the echo of unanswered questions. FOX8 reported that alongside local efforts, an out-of-state dive team named Chaos Divers sought to unearth clues within Northeast Ohio's rivers, to no avail. Their commitment, though vigilantly pursued, failed to lead to Jones' whereabouts at the time of the searches.
The somber discovery on East 91st Street and Cannon Avenue culminated in Donna Ayers, Jones's mother, confirming her son's identification to WKYC. "It's relief, it's hurt, it's rage. And then when I see where it is. It’s garbage. They dumped him like garbage," Ayers expressed in despair. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office helped confirm Jones's identity through dental records.
Ayers, grieving and resolute, communicated to FOX8, "I’m coming at you. I’m coming for you because you threw him away like garbage. No, I’m coming." The mission has now shifted for Ayers and her family, from search to seeking justice. Though the perturbation of loss shrouds the community, Ayers pledges to concentrate her energies in pursuit of the truth and the responsible parties for her son's untimely demise.
Cleveland Police is presently leading the investigation, and although Jones's body has been recovered, his 2011 Chevy Impala remains unaccounted for. The family and authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the death of Calvin Jones to come forward and contact the Cleveland Police Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers of Cuyahoga County.
