An Akron child is recovering following a gunshot wound to the face, an incident that has the Akron Police Department actively investigating. According to a press release from Akron police and shared by WKYC, the event occurred on Sunday around 12:30 p.m. when police responded to a shooting at the 400 block of Palmetto Avenue. The boy, before law enforcement could arrive, walked to the Akron Fire Department Station 13 for help, where officers later found him suffering from his injuries.
The young victim was then treated by paramedics before being transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital, as per the Akron Police Department statement. The injuries, while severe, are reported by officers to believed be non-life-threatening. Detectives are currently piecing together the moments leading up to the shooting. A firearm was located at the scene, and while specifics are not yet determined, there are considerations that the shooting could have been accidental or self-inflicted, according to Cleveland19.
Adding to the complexity of the case, Lt. Michael Murphy mentioned in an interview that it's still uncertain whether "the victim of this incident was the one that pulled the trigger or if the friend did it." This statement was obtained by News 5 Cleveland, pointing to the possibility of another individual being involved in the incident. The police have yet to release more detailed information regarding the circumstances or the current condition of the child.
