A 13-year-old boy was fatally shot in the head, and the NYPD believes it was a gang-related incident. Mayor Eric Adams, addressing the situation, pointed to the shortcomings of criminal justice reform laws in connection with the violence affecting younger victims. In a statement obtained by ABC7 New York, Adams announced, "We will find the person responsible. We are going to ensure they are brought to justice."
The NYPD has released images of the suspect, identified as a 16-year-old boy attending Campus Magnet High School, last seen sporting a black hoodie, black pants, white sneakers, and a backpack featuring the "JAWS" logo. Authorities are already to work closely with an attorney to negotiate the teen's surrender. The 13-year-old victim, Sanjay Samuel, was with friends in a Dunkin' Donuts parking lot when he was shot during an altercation following an argument, according to details released by the police and reported by ABC7 New York.
Video evidence has suggested that the shooting was a targeted act. Surveillance captured a subsequent scene where a boy entered a deli, presumably to relay news of the shooting, which then shows other kids emerging, visibly shaken. Sammy's family spoke outside Cohen's Children's Hospital on Wednesday, where it was announced that the young teen had succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, the NYPD Crimestoppers issued a social media post concerning the incident and have asked for public assistance in apprehending the suspect. "WANTED FOR A HOMICIDE: On Monday, September 22, 2025, at approximately 8:21 A.M., in front of 208-15 Linden Boulevard, in the confines of the 105 Precinct, an unidentified individual discharged a firearm, striking the13-year-old male victim in the head, causing his death," stated the post.
