A 17-year-old suspect is now in custody following a shooting incident outside a Tulsa elementary school, according to a recent social media post from Tulsa Police Department. The altercation, which unfolded in the parking lot of Sequoyah Elementary School, left an SUV, occupied by four juveniles at the time, riddled with bullets. No injuries have been reported in connection with the shooting.
The event took place last Friday evening, with police dispatched to the scene around 7:45 PM after receiving reports of gunfire. The juvenile victims told officers that the perpetrator, arriving in a black Cadillac Escalade equipped with dark tinted windows and distinctive blue LED headlamps, proceeded to aggressively brandish a pistol and fire three shots into the vehicle they were seated in. An attempt to quickly locate the suspect followed, leading to a discovery of the suspect's vehicle and the recovery of ballistic evidence that included spent cartridge casings and projectiles from the SUV.
In a statement obtained by Tulsa Police Department, "The officer saw three distinct bullet holes in the door and recovered projectiles from inside the passenger compartment." Further investigative efforts by a responding sergeant led to locating a matching black Cadillac Escalade parked near 700 N. Birmingham Pl. The suspect was apprehended as they were exiting the vehicle, at which point officers found a Ruger 9mm handgun tucked in the suspect's waistband.
The police department's post, made public through Facebook, details that the juvenile was positively identified as the shooter. As he is a minor, his name has not been released, but with the charge of Shooting with Intent to Kill (SWIK) x4 levied against him, it has been suggested that he could be charged as an adult. It is essential to clearly remember, as noted by police, that this arrest does not serve as a conviction.
