An 18-year-old male has been charged with the murder of a 17-year-old in what appears to be a tragic convergence of youth and violence on Chicago's streets. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, is facing a felony count of first-degree murder and a felony count of armed robbery with a firearm, according to a press release issued by the Chicago Police Department.
Law enforcement officials apprehended the alleged offender on Tuesday, at around 10:23 a.m., found in Lake Forest, Illinois, near S. Campus Drive. Charged in the case that stems from an incident that unfolded in early June, he was reportedly involved in which a 17-year-old male was fatally shot and robbed at gunpoint.
The arrest came as a result of collaborative efforts between the Chicago Police and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. The detainee is slated for a detention hearing at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California on the anniversary of today's date.
The Chicago Police have shared a few details surrounding the circumstances of the June 1 incident. Occurring in the 11900 block of S. Wallace St. within the jurisdiction of the 5th District, the victim was allegedly confronted by the now-charged youth during the early morning hours, around 3:07 a.m.
