An incident unfolded in Brooklyn last night when 24-year-old Ramel Ingram was fatally shot outside his residence on Crooke Avenue near St. Paul's Place. The New York Police Department reported that Ingram was found with a gunshot wound to his chest around 8:45 p.m., few steps from the southeastern edge of Prospect Park, according to the Gothamist.
The victim was swiftly transported to Kings County Hospital by first responders but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. NYPD data indicates that homicides are rare in the 70th Precinct, which includes neighborhoods such as Prospect Park South, Midwood, and Ditmas Park. There has been one other fatality and six shootings reported up to Sunday, representing a slight decrease compared to the same time last year.
Details surrounding the apprehension and the motivations behind the event remain limited. Local resident Benny Clark told AMNewYork, "I was about to move the car, and I noticed all this police activity." Another Brooklyn resident, Chantel Rogers, expressed surprise, stating, "This is very uncommon for this area in the time I’ve been living here."
Following the incident, the NYPD has taken a person of interest into custody at the scene. However, identities and any potential charges have not yet been released or determined as the investigation continues.
