The North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) has awarded a $500,000 grant for the development of Parker’s Ridge Park in Moncure, located in the southeast corner of Chatham County. The funding will support the creation of a pump track, a gravel walking loop path, and a restroom/shelter structure overlooking a pond. Construction is expected to begin in early 2026.
According to Chatham County’s official website, Tracy Burnett, Director of Chatham County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources, announced the grant award and outlined the planned features for the park.
PARTF provides financial assistance to North Carolina communities to acquire land, build new recreation facilities, or improve existing parks. Each project can receive up to $500,000, and recipients must match the grant dollar-for-dollar.
Grant management for PARTF is handled by the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources through its Division of Parks and Recreation. The Recreation Resources Service at N.C. State University also offers grant specialists to guide local applicants through the process.
