An 84-year-old woman experienced a jarring incident this past Thursday when a sinkhole nearly engulfed her SUV in northwest Houston. The event transpired after she had left a CVS Pharmacy, at approximately 2:30 p.m., near the intersection of Hardway and Antoine. According to a report by Click2Houston, the ground suddenly collapsed beneath her vehicle, trapping it in the crevice.
The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, told KHOU, "And I turned, all of a sudden I heard this, like I had hit something." Unable to reverse or to move forward, she was effectively stuck until help arrived. Bystanders, including the owner of OnlyTow Wrecker Service and a coworker, were able to quickly offer assistance, ensuring that the situation didn't escalate dangerously.
The OnlyTow Wrecker Service owner, returning nearby from another job, was among the first to spot and come to aid the woman. Describing the scene, he said, "I was shocked when I saw the lady’s car," as stated by Click2Houston. Aside from the shock, he reported the woman was not injured and refused medical attention at the scene. The vehicle, while trapped, only suffered minor damage to the front and the undercarriage. Despite the initial assessment, as a safety precaution, the woman did not drive her vehicle home.
