The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that their annual safety message contest, now in its ninth cycle, is calling on locals to put their cleverness to use for highway safety. Submissions for succinct and impactful messages to grace the electronic signs lining Arizona's roads are open until Sept. 22. In a bid to spark dialogue on safe driving habits and potentially curb the alarming rate of crashes primarily due to driver behavior, the contest seeks to galvanize the community interactively and engagingly.
With thousands of entries anticipated, as historically seen, ADOT will filter through the public's creativity to nominate 10 to 15 top messages for a community-wide vote. According to an article from FOX10 Phoenix, last year's winning aphorism, "Drive with care — life has no spare," penned by Casa Grande's Doreen Charles-Brock, encapsulated the initiative's aim: to present driving safety in an easily digestible format that resonates.
In a nod to the effectiveness of these road-sign-borne quips, an ADOT spokesperson shared with ADOT’s website their enthusiasm for the contest's return, highlighting the joyful anticipation of sifting through this year's innovative entries. The ultimate goal remains to craft narratives, albeit brief, that drivers will carry with them far beyond the glow of the electronic signs, modifying driving habits for the better.
For Arizonans eager to contribute their voice and vision for a safer tomorrow, entries can be made via ADOT’s website.
