
A tragic incident unfolded yesterday at Samuel W. Cooper Park in Plant City, where an adult male drowned in the park's pond. According to WFLA, the Plant City Police Department responded to a distress call around 1:30 p.m. after reports of a male submerged in the water. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The search and recovery operation quickly engaged, with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team brought to greatly assist in locating the victim. As reported by WTSP, the man did not resurface before the dive team arrived. The circumstances leading up to the drowning remain under investigation, and police have not yet released the identity of the man, pending notification of his family.
In a statement obtained by Tampa Free Press, the Plant City Police Department expressed "its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time." The park, located at the 900 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, became the center of a major interagency effort following the incident.
