In a recent social media post, Arlington Parks and Recreation announced an urgent call to action for animal lovers and prospective pet owners in the community. The city's animal shelter, Arlington Animal Services, has reached a critical point, handling an influx of 67 new intakes in just the past two days, with an additional 12 on a single day. This has resulted in a staggering total of 175 animals that now require care and a home.
Confronted with this overflow of furry friends, Arlington Animal Services is initiating a "FLASH, $5 adoption special," effectively immediately. This reduced-fee adoption event is an attempt to alleviate the pressing space issues at the shelter. The situation, as described on Facebook by the Arlington Parks and Recreation, is reaching a critical point, and the shelter is seeking the community's assistance, along with their networkers and rescue partners, to find these dogs a place to call home.
The shelter assures potential adopters that all dogs in the adoption program have undergone behavioral evaluation around people and other dogs, and no negative behaviors have been observed. They also welcome current dog owners to bring their pets to the shelter for an official meet and greet, arranged with an Arlington Animal Services team member to ensure a good match.
