Calling all Arlington residents looking to clear out old papers and outdated electronics – the city has just the event for you. Set your calendars for Saturday, as the City of Arlington hosts an environmentally friendly paper shredding and electronics recycling event. It's a prime opportunity to responsibly dispose of these items without cost.
Arlington's free event is designed to offer locals a chance to safely get rid of sensitive documents and outdated gadgets. According to a release by the City of Arlington, the event will run from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., or until the shredding truck reaches capacity, whichever comes first. It's essential to note that proof of Arlington residency is a must for participation, and trailers are a no-go at the UTA parking location.
For paper shredding, there’s a stringent limit – just two boxes per vehicle. These should be the size of a standard cardboard banker's box, nothing larger. The shredding happens right before your eyes, onsite, offering that instant gratification of witnessing the destruction of personal documents that could pose a risk if they fell into the wrong hands.
But it's not simply about paper; electronic waste poses its own set of challenges. The City of Arlington is accepting an array of electronics, from flat screens and CRT televisions to laptops, cell phones, and even small corded appliances. There's an environmental imperative to responsibly recycle these parts of our digital lives. Yet, not everything with a plug can make the cut to be recycled here. The event explicitly excludes large household appliances and anything containing Freon. "Electronic not accepted," reads the official release, which makes it clear that your old fridge or AC unit won't be welcome. Should you need to dispose of these bigger items, Arlington suggests a call to Republic Services at (817) 317-2000.
