The Baltimore County Public Library's Woodlawn branch is preparing to shut its doors temporarily as it undergoes a significant makeover. According to WBALTV, the current facility on Woodlawn Drive is slated for a $22 million revamp, intended to modernize the library experience for community members. The branch will cease operations for patrons on September 26, with a renovation kickoff event planned for October 1.
In the interim, library services won't come to a complete halt. A temporary site will open on October 6 at 6600 Security Boulevard, Suite 13, providing a basic array of services that includes computer access and the borrowing of materials. As Baltimore Fishbowl reports, this stopgap solution comes as the main branch prepares to expand to 35,000 square feet and incorporate a host of 21st-century amenities, such as a digital media lab and a café.
The renovation efforts will not only expand physical space but also introduce specifically tailored areas for different age groups and interests. In line with the library's vision for a 21st-century establishment, the plan includes dedicated zones for adults, teens, tweens, and children, plus tranquil work and study areas.
