The legal fabric of Baltimore's judicial system has been fortified with the addition of two new Special Assistant United States Attorneys (SAUSAs). As reported by the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City, Lauren Rosenberg and Kevin Reinoso have been sworn into their respective positions to bolster efforts in prosecuting violent crimes across the city. According to the Office of the State's Attorney, Rosenberg breaks a years-long hiatus from such appointments, and Reinoso transitions from his prior role as an Assistant State’s Attorney.

Under their new mandates, Rosenberg and Reinoso will strategically work to closely coordinate not just with the local State's Attorney's Office and law enforcement agencies, but also with federal counterparts like the ATF, FBI, and DEA. State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates articulated his aim, stating, "I reaffirmed my commitment to working hand-in-hand with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to ensure we are securing the longest sentences possible for violent offenders.” Bates expressed his pride in the appointees and his gratitude towards U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes for the continued partnership.

Focused on a broad spectrum of crime, including gang-related activities, narcotics trafficking, and serious felonies like homicides, the SAUSAs will also take on advisory roles in Project Safe Neighborhoods. This program falls under the purview of both federal and state prosecutors looking to combat escalating levels of violence in Baltimore.
