Dog lovers in Metro Detroit rejoice, Barkside, the unique combination of a dog park and bar, is set to open its second facility in Southfield. Barkside's new location, which flaunts 5,000 square feet of indoor play space and an 8,000-square-foot outdoor area, launches this Saturday at the corner of Greenfield and 11 Mile roads. According to The Detroit News, this space is designed to allow dogs off their leashes in a controlled environment while humans unwind with a variety of drinks, including cocktails and Michigan-made beer.
Co-founder Cody Williams expressed their mission, "Our vision for Barkside has always been about more than just a bar or a dog park. It’s about creating a place where dog lovers and dogs can safely socialize, unwind, and have fun." Williams and David Oh launched the first Barkside in Detroit back in 2023, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit. The enjoyment is not just limited to the dogs; owners can relax and interact in spaces equipped with Wi-Fi and televisions, with the added conveniences of climate control.
The location’s debut is being marked with a celebratory week where, according to a clickondetroit report, dogs can experience the facility for free from Saturday through October 3. Monthly or annual members are welcomed to enjoy a $1 glass of champagne in celebration. For added security and safety, the dog park insists on strict vaccination requirements for all canine visitors and has 'Rufferees' overseeing playtime.
Membership at Barkside doesn't come without its perks. An annual fee of $375 offers unlimited visits, a free day pass for friends each month, along with discounted and exclusive member-only events. The monthly option comes at $40, as detailed by FOX 2 Detroit, and includes similar benefits, for those less committed or for dog owners who want to dip their paws into the Barkside experience before diving in. No charge is required for the humans accompanying their furry friends, and single day passes are also available.
