An unsettling act of violence occurred at Moe’s Steakhouse in Mission Beach yesterday, where a bartender was stabbed multiple times in an unprovoked attack. The San Diego Police Department stated the incident took place around 2 PM, and witnesses said the perpetrator appeared to be under the influence while on the beach before entering the steakhouse, located at the 3700 block of Mission Boulevard, according to reports from NBC 7 San Diego.
After being confronted by a bystander, the suspect allegedly assaulted the bartender, who was stabbed seven times, before the same bystander intervened using a rock to halt the attack, police explained. SanDiegoVille reports showed that the restaurant employees and locals also rushed to the victim's aid, using barstools and other nearby objects to subdue the assailant until law enforcement arrived at the scene, as relayed by SDPD Sgt. Kevin Stein. The injuries sustained by the bartender are not considered life-threatening, and the individual is expected to recover after undergoing surgery.
The aggressor, identified by witnesses as a local homeless man, was also injured in the scuffle and was subsequently taken into custody following medical treatment, SanDiegoVille reported. Details provided suggested the violent episode was random, with the attacker entering through a side door before the usual business hours. The employees' collective effort and a resident’s intervention later subdued the suspect.
