In a deliberate act of violence that jolted the community of Berkeley, 26-year-old Ivan Salvador Ochoa Munguia faces grave charges for using his vehicle to commit not one, but three attempted murders. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office announced the decision to press multiple felony charges against Mr. Ochoa Munguia. This announcement, made on social media, followed a string of violent incidents that occurred on Tuesday.
According to the Facebook post published by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, Mr. Ochoa Munguia is charged with three counts each of willful, deliberate, and premeditated attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and leaving the scene of an accident causing injury. The case, resonating with the heavy toll of vehicular violence, is added with layers of charges that also include unlawful driving or taking a vehicle, attempted unlawful driving or taking a vehicle, and receiving stolen property, all of which are felonies that suggest a history of disregard for the law.
Within this tapestry of crimes, sentencing enhancements for the use of a deadly weapon and inflicting great bodily injury underscore the severity of Mr. Ochoa Munguia's alleged actions. The arraignment occurred yesterday, followed by a scheduled plea hearing for October 1 at the Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.
