Hitting it big on the September 1 drawing, Werner had chosen his own numbers—08-23-25-40-53 with the Powerball 05. This rare event, when Werner purchased the winning ticket on MichiganLottery.com, becomes even more remarkable as he revealed, “This was only my second time ever playing Powerball," according to a statement obtained by MichiganLotteryConnect. He had used his winnings from his first ticket to buy the triumphant one.
Werner's disbelief at his win prompted a double-check by his brother. Moving past the initial shock, he confirmed the life-changing amount when he logged into his lottery account, his balance reflecting the six-figure sum. He told WZZM13, “It was hard to believe, so I had my brother double check what I was seeing and then I logged into my lottery account and saw my $150,000 balance!”
