On what seemed like just another routine traffic stop, deputies from the Colorado River Sheriff’s Station Special Enforcement Team found more than they bargained for in the 500 block of North 9th Street and Chanslorway, Blythe, yesterday. A passenger, 48-year-old Joshua Hampton, promptly alerted the officers to the presence of a firearm within the vehicle, which resulted in his detainment and the uncovering of a loaded .22 caliber handgun upon his person, along with approximately 8 grams of what appeared to be methamphetamine, as reported by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.

The encounter led to Hampton being booked into Blythe Jail on charges of possession of a loaded firearm and felony possession of narcotics. As the investigation prompted by the traffic stop continues, authorities are seeking any additional information, as per the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.
