A tranquil weekend afternoon in Macomb County was disrupted by a boat explosion that injured two people and resulted in the death of a dog. The incident, occurring at Emerald City Harbor in St. Clair Shores around 12:30 p.m. last Saturday, saw the boat burst into flames just seconds after the passengers had finished refueling, as reported by ClickOnDetroit.
Thrown into the water after the explosion, the two individuals aboard managed only to sustain minor injuries. Their dog, however, was less fortunate, taken swiftly to an emergency veterinary hospital, and it succumbed to the wounds inflicted by the blast. The Macomb County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Marine Division and first responders found the boat nearly submerged, its fragments scattered on the water's surface, bearing witness to the violence of the blast.
Environmental concerns were soon raised, leading to a call for environmental services. Polluting the harbor, fuel, and oil from the wreckage necessitated immediate action, emphasizing the not just local but also ecological imprint of the explosion. Authorities are still investigating the cause, but as both ClickOnDetroit and the MCSO have conveyed, there is no suspicion of foul play at this moment.
