The search for missing 81-year-old George Frederick Corum, Jr. ended in heartbreak as his body was discovered Sunday evening in a wooded area near Norbeck Road, according to a news release from the Montgomery County Police Department.
Corum, who suffered from dementia, had been missing since September 23 after he reportedly walked away from his residence in the 15500 block of Bailey’s Lane in Silver Spring, and local authorities had issued a Silver Alert in an effort to locate him, during which time, community members and search teams were looking for any signs of the elderly man, with hopes dwindling as days passed without a clue. Fourth District officers, along with the Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel, responded to the sad discovery at approximately 7:30 p.m. on September 28, where Corum was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Montgomery County Police Department has stated that the circumstances of Corum's death are still under investigation, but they have found no evidence to suggest that foul play had been involved in this tragic incident. Community members who had followed the case expressed their condolences, noting the vulnerability of individuals with dementia and the importance of support and careful monitoring for those living with the condition.
