Boerne's community and city officials recently celebrated the groundbreaking of Northside Community Park, a project poised to enhance the city's recreational landscape. Mayor Frank Ritchie underscored the communal spirit behind the endeavor, remarking that the park exemplifies Boerne's commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents. According to a My Boerne News report, he said, "This project is a testament to what makes Boerne so special – a community that comes together, listens to one another, and invests in the quality of life."

The upcoming 40-acre space is the city's largest singular investment in parkland, ringing in at $16.5 million. Scheduled over the next 12-18 months, the park will feature amenities such as an all-abilities playground, sports fields, and a food truck park. During the construction, the existing skate park and a restroom facility, under the shade of heritage oak trees, will be inaccessible to the public, as reported by My Boerne News.

A commitment to environmental stewardship stands central to the park's development. The approach includes the preservation of 96 percent of existing trees, and the planting of a hundred more, reflective of the city's pursuit of sustainable solutions. "This park is another clear example of how we can take community input, align it with strategic goals, and deliver something extraordinary," City Manager Ben Thatcher told My Boerne News.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has bolstered this green initiative with a $750,000 grant. As construction begins, a temporary fence has been set up around the park as crews start working, which will kick off with grading and earthwork. The new Northside Community Park, replete with rainwater catchment systems and native plant landscaping, promises to set a precedent for sustainability blended seamlessly with recreational utility, as stated by My Boerne News. Ensuring the park's environmental friendly design with stormwater bioretention and detention basins.
