Yesterday morning, Boston police arrested a man on a litany of firearm-related charges after he was allegedly seen breaking and entering a downtown property. According to a press release by the Boston Police Department, officers detained 35-year-old Boston resident James Kearse following a report of suspicious activity involving multiple individuals near Kingston Street and Bedford Street.
Responding to a radio call, officers arrived at the scene around 1:56 AM to find a group dressed in all black and wearing ski masks. Kearse was observed prying open a chain-link fence and entering a rear door of 37 Bedford Street. Despite "No Trespassing" signs prominently displayed, the suspect initially refused to heed police commands but eventually emerged from the building and was taken into custody without incident.
In the search that followed, officers discovered a discarded Smith & Wesson M&P Shield behind a locked gate. The firearm was loaded with one round in chamber and nine rounds in the magazine. Kearse, who has a history of prior offenses, now faces charges including carrying a firearm without a license (third offense) and possession of a firearm in commission of a felony. Further charges for Kearse include trespass, resisting arrest, and disturbing the peace among others.
The Boston Municipal Court will hear Kearse's arraignment, where he will answer to the charges.
