A Massachusetts man has been apprehended and charged in the aftermath of a deadly hit-and-run incident that occurred last month in Brockton. 30-year-old Dominick Leite is accused of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and leaving the scene of personal injury or death, as per the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office statements today. The victim, 41-year-old Holden Depina, met his tragic end while traversing Crescent Street on the night of August 31, succumbing to his injuries in the hospital after three days.
According to reports by NBC Boston, a witness in another vehicle noticed a blue Mazda fleeing the scene post-collision. Subsequent investigation led to the surveillance footage which depicted the same vehicle heading towards what was later confirmed as Leite's residence. Found at a local auto body shop, the blue Mazda, with damage congruent with the crash, was brought in for repairs only days following the tragic event.
Leite was taken into custody yesterday and appeared in court the following day, pleading not guilty to the charges against him. Here, a judge set his bail at $2,500. In the courtroom, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office in their press release, as MassLive covered, detailed the timeline of Leite's arraignment and the conditions of his release which included barring any contact with witnesses related to the case.
The court date looming on the horizon set for October 17. The car, registered to Leite and consistent with crash evidence, was repaired on September 2 and logged with his phone number, as stated in the investigation details outlined by the district attorney’s office.
