A Bronx man has been handed a four and a half year prison sentence for possessing a considerable quantity of fentanyl. Gotti Berguette, also known as "Gotty,” was found with over 11,300 glassine envelopes of the drug, estimated to have a street value between $100,000 and $150,000. This sentencing arrives as part of the ongoing battle against opioid abuse in the Bronx, as announced by the DA's office.

In a crackdown on drug-related criminal activity, NYPD Field Intelligence Officers executed a search warrant at Berguette’s apartment on June 2, 2023, leading to the discovery and arrest. Operating from his residence at 1500 Thieriot Avenue, Berguette’s involvement in narcotics has resulted in legal consequences, with a substantial quantity of the dangerous substance successfully taken out of circulation. "Fentanyl remains deadly in the Bronx, so seizing this supply before it could be sold on the street has saved many people from harm,” said District Attorney Clark in a statement obtained by the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

The 40-year-old Berguette pled guilty to third-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance on July 21. The court mandates not only a prison term but also three years of post-release supervision. Bronx Supreme Court Justice Cynthia Isales presided over the case, rendering the verdict that will confine Berguette for the following years.

Assistant District Attorney Nitin Aradhya of the Special Investigations Bureau, under the supervision of Chief Craig Cecchini and the overall supervision of Deputy Chief Denise Kodjo and Chief Wanda Perez Maldonado of the Investigations Division, led the prosecution. Berguette apprehended, NYPD Detective Kiel Sui was thanked by District Attorney Clark, for his pivotal work on the case.
