A tragic event unfolded within the walls of a Brooklyn IHOP late Friday night, resulting in the death of a 67-year-old worker and injuries to a colleague. The fatal stabbing occurred just before the clock struck 11 p.m. on Flatlands Avenue in Starrett City. According to ABC7NY, the victim worked as a cleaner at the establishment when he was attacked in the restroom, sustaining a stab wound to the torso.
Attempting to intervene, a 41-year-old employee was also harmed, receiving a slash on the hand, and is expected to recover. While the motivations behind the assault are yet unclear, authorities took the suspect into custody following the incident. This appears to be a violent act following the two men into the bathroom, sources say.
The aftermath of the altercation sent the older victim to a local hospital where he was deemed dead. In a follow-up to the tragedy, a spokesperson for IHOP conveyed the company's condolences and affirmed its commitment to safety. "We are aware of the tragic incident that took place at our Flatlands, Brooklyn location in which one of our team members passed following a physical altercation," the spokesperson said in a statement obtained by PIX11 News. "Our thoughts are with the loved ones of our team member, as well as with the entire team at this location. We are cooperating fully with the local law enforcement investigation. The safety of our team members and guests is our number one priority."
