Canutillo Elementary School launched the start of a $9.5 million renovation project, entirely funded by the historical Canutillo Bond passed in 2024. According to Canutillo ISD, the groundbreaking event on Wednesday was a celebration of new beginnings for the district's oldest elementary school. Interim Superintendent Jesica Arellano spoke to the community's commitment, noting the passage of the bond signifies “a catalyst for progress” that would benefit every campus in the district.

As reported by Canutillo ISD, the renovations at Canutillo Elementary include security and facility upgrades, new HVAC systems, and interior improvements aimed at fostering a more conducive learning environment. Despite the challenges imposed by outdated infrastructure, Arellano maintained that the bond program's fulfillment was a testament to the community's value placed on their children's educational prospects.

Emphasizing the importance of transparency, the Canutillo ISD Board, led by President Armando Rodriguez, honed in on the district's focus on being accountable to the public's trust. As Rodríguez told the onlookers, they are closely monitoring every aspect of the bond projects to adhere to their promise to the community. "Every decision, every contract, every timeline is under scrutiny and we welcome that," he remarked, as per Canutillo ISD.

Principal Andrea Esparza of Canutillo Elementary described during a website interview how the renovations would make an immediate impact on the day-to-day experiences of both students and staff. Throughout the years, each rain brought leaks, and struggling HVAC systems forced improvisation to maintain bearable learning conditions. Esparza expressed relief, saying, "These renovations are not abstract. They are real, they are urgent and they will change the daily experience of our students and teachers," as obtained by Canutillo ISD.
