In a notable bust at the Hidalgo International Bridge, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers uncovered a significant haul of cocaine with a street value estimated at more than $890,000. The interception took place as a Dodge Durango from Mexico was attempting entry into the United States.

During a routine check, a primary officer got a possible hit for a wanted individual, leading to a deeper inspection of the vehicle. CBP's vigilance ultimately resulted in the discovery of a criminal payload beneath the outer veneer of an otherwise ordinary vehicle. "Our frontline CBP officers encountered a driver with a routine outstanding warrant and upon closer inspection of the vehicle, they discovered a significant amount of hard narcotics as well," Port Director Carlos Rodriguez told CBP newsroom.

The officers were able to verify an outstanding nonextraditable traffic warrant on the driver after transporting them to a secondary inspection area. Further examination, aided by technology and a canine team, was to uncover the hidden stash. CBP reported that officers found 26 packages of alleged cocaine, weighing a total of 66.71 pounds (30.26 kg), ingeniously concealed within the vehicle's structure.

Following the discovery, CBP OFO seized both the narcotics and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations took the driver into custody and has since initiated a criminal investigation into the matter. This interdiction stands as a testament to the continuous efforts exerted by border security personnel to halt the illegal flow of narcotics across the border. CBP’s commitment to their border security mission remains as perceptive and determined as ever, a point emphasized by Rodriguez, who said, "Seizures and apprehensions like these perfectly illustrate our continued commitment to CBP’s border security mission." in a statement obtained by CBP newsroom.
