The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has charged 59-year-old Ioannis Vlahos with multiple offenses in connection with a fatal hit-and-run. The incident occurred on late last month at about 10:16 p.m. on the 4500 block of Old Pineville Road in the Westover Division. The victim, 52-year-old Mark Hendel, was found at the scene with severe injuries near a wheelchair. He was transported to a hospital but died on Monday.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported that Vlahos was arrested following an investigation by the Major Crash Investigation Unit with assistance from Westover Division detectives. The charges include Felony Hit and Run Inflicting Serious Injury or Death, No Operator’s License, and No Liability Insurance. The investigation remains ongoing.
