
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is actively investigating a homicide following an incident in the Freedom Division, according to the department's latest release. The crime occurred on the 200 block of Hoskins Mill Lane, where 48-year-old Sean Nicholas Watson was found with a gunshot wound last Thursday just after midnight. The victim was rushed to Atrium Health with critical injuries and, two days later, succumbed to those injuries on August 30.
Charlotte detectives worked quickly to apprehend a suspect, identifying 40-year-old Davis Gary Graves in connection with the shooting. With arrest warrants in hand, CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team set out to locate Graves the following day. They were successful in their efforts, arresting Graves last Sunday," according to a press release by CMPD.
Upon his arrest, Graves was brought to the Law Enforcement Center for interrogation by homicide detectives. Post-interview, he was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. He now faces charges for Murder and Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. The CMPD has made efforts to inform Graves' next of kin of both his death and the circumstances leading to his arrest.
The investigation into Watson's death remains active, with the CMPD assuring that updates will be shared by the Public Affairs Office as they become available.
