The recent homicide investigation in Charlotte's North Tryon Division has taken a significant turn with the identification of the victim and the arrest of two juvenile suspects. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has named the victim as Tyshaun Lamont Stokes, 16. Details of the investigation were published on the CMPD newsroom page.
CMPD detectives' efforts culminated last Thursday, when the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) apprehended two juveniles. In connection with the Stokes case, the suspects, one aged 16 and the other 14, are facing serious charges. The 16-year-old has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder and discharging a weapon into occupied property (DWOP). The younger suspect has been placed under a secured custody order for first-degree murder, according to information released by CMPD.
In their ongoing efforts to uncover the full narrative of this tragedy, CMPD continues to encourage the community to come forward with any information. Detective Diekhaus, leading the case, is available to be contacted directly with any tips that may assist in their active investigation. CMPD has also made provisions for anonymous tip submissions through Crime Stoppers, accessible either by phone, their mobile app, or on their website.
CMPD has confirmed that Mr. Stokes' next of kin are aware of his death and the subsequent arrests. Updates on the investigation will be forthcoming as CMPD's Public Affairs Office continues to inform the public on the case's developments.
