The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has reported the arrest of Leetwain Darrell Tate, a 48-year-old individual in connection with crimes against minors. Tate, also known by the monikers "Sharon" and "Ms. Sharon," was apprehended today by the department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), as noted in an official statement released by CMPD.
After being interviewed by detectives from the CMPD's Crimes Against Children (CAC) Unit, Tate was charged with two counts of statutory rape, six counts of indecent liberties with a minor, and, one count of statutory sex offense. Following these charges, Tate was handed over to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office for custody. Previously employed as a school bus driver at Sugar Creek Charter School, Tate faced suspension amid the investigation and was officially dismissed from the position yesterday, as disclosed by CMPD.
Initial inquiries suggest that the alleged criminal activities did not take place on school grounds nor while Tate was on duty as a school bus driver. CMPD's CAC Unit is currently suggesting the chilling possibility that there could be more victims who have yet to come forward. To ensure a thorough investigation, the police are urging anyone who might have been victimized to contact Detective King at 704-336-7495.
Moreover, for individuals possessing additional information regarding the case, there are multiple avenues for submitting tips anonymously, whether it be through the Charlotte Crime Stoppers P3 Tips Mobile App, their website, or by calling 704-334-1600.
