The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is currently investigating a homicide case involving a 9-month-old infant who was found unresponsive in the 300 block of Orchard Trace Lane, as reported by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's newsroom. On July 7, CMPD officers were called to assist MEDIC with a service, where they discovered the infant. The child was rushed to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center but was later pronounced deceased.
The CMPD Homicide Unit took over the investigation, and after a consultation with the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office, it was determined that the cause of death was related to Fentanyl. The tragic turn of events led the CMPD Homicide Detectives to sign warrants for the arrest of Hallie Ingram, 35. She is now facing charges of Murder and Felony Child Abuse.
Ingram was apprehended on September 2 by CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and has since been placed into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
The family of the deceased infant has been duly informed about both the death and the subsequent arrest of Ingram. The CMPD has not released further details regarding the circumstances of the infant's exposure to Fentanyl; ongoing investigations are expected to uncover more information.
