A multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 75 in Bartow County, Georgia, resulted in the injury of four individuals, including a 7-year-old boy who was ejected from one of the vehicles, as reported by the Georgia State Patrol. FOX 5 Atlanta provided details on the accident, which occurred on Labor Day around 4:30 p.m., resulting in significant delays during one of the busiest travel times of the year.
According to information obtained by 11Alive, a white Toyota Camry in the northbound middle lane was struck by an unidentified white passenger car, sending the Camry into a Chevrolet Suburban in another lane. In the aftermath, the vehicle that caused the initial collision continued northward, unimpeded by the wreck it left behind.
The collision's impact propelled both the Camry and the Suburban through the median's cable barrier, with the latter overturning and careening into oncoming southbound traffic. It collided with a black Chevrolet Silverado, which also overturned, leading to the tragic ejection of the young child from the truck. The injured were rushed to hospitals with the child being airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital, and three others transported to Kennestone Hospital, per FOX 5 Atlanta.
An 11Alive viewer reported being trapped in traffic for over an hour and a half, and witnesses described emergency vehicles, including a helicopter, responding to the chaotic scene. While the Georgia State Patrol has not yet identified the make and model of the passenger car responsible for initiating the sequence of events, their investigation into the hit-and-run incident is ongoing. The highway closure caused by the collision resulted in a traffic backlog that lasted for hours on one of the year's busiest travel days, according to the same report by 11Alive.
