A devastating house fire in Cleveland has claimed the lives of two individuals early this morning. According to a social media post by the Cleveland Fire Department, the blaze erupted just after midnight on E.52 south of Fleet in Battalion 2, where firefighters encountered heavy flames on the building's first floor and porch area.
In the throes of battle against the fierce inferno, firefighters discovered an adult male and female on the second floor. Both victims were in critical condition when they were transported by Cleveland Emergency Medical Service (CEMS) to MetroHealth, where they were later declared deceased. The total estimated damage to the structure is pegged at $150,000, while fortunately, no firefighters sustained injuries during the operation.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with fire officials working diligently to piece together the events that led to the tragedy. One distressing detail emerged from the chaos – no working smoke alarms were reported by the first responders arriving at the scene. The absence of this crucial early-warning device may have been a critical factor in the unfortunate outcome of the fire.
The post mentions that citizens who are in need of smoke alarms can reach out to the Fire Department for assistance. The alarms are provided by the Red Cross and are installed by Cleveland firefighters themselves, a testament to their commitment to community safety.
