Yesterday, a disruption at the Quik Stop market led to police intervention in Cloverdale. Officers from the Cloverdale Police Department arrived at the scene around 8:30 AM after reports of a man causing a disturbance by the storefront at 601 North Cloverdale Boulevard, according to a social media post by the Cloverdale Police Department.
The individual, a local resident, was encountered by police in an apparent state of mental distress, aggressively shouting near the market entrance. Early social media reports inaccurately suggested the man possessed a firearm, which was clarified by authorities as a plastic hair pick. His past interactions with law enforcement suggested a history of violent tendencies when in crisis, the situation was heightened and all the more delicate given the proximity of a school, but at no point was there a direct threat posed to it or the broader community.
Backup was swiftly provided by the California Highway Patrol and the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, ensuring an escalated yet contained situation. "The subject was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local hospital for evaluation under a mental health hold," the Cloverdale Police Department noted.
