In the continuing effort to educate and engage the public on the perils of narcotics, the Collin County Criminal District Attorney's Office hosted a significant session in its third week of the Citizen Prosecutor Academy. The presentation, as revealed on the Collin County Criminal District Attorney's Office Facebook page, featured Special Prosecution Unit Chief Christina Skipper, who elucidated the criminal justice process surrounding narcotics offenses.
During her talk, Skipper unwrapped the layers of misdemeanor and felony drug cases, detailing how charges are exacted, as she delineated the different levels of offenses. Meanwhile, the presentation highlighted the concerning uptick in violent crimes linked to drug usage. Skipper also shared pivotal statistics about overdoses, with a pronounced focus on the perilous opioid fentanyl, revealing Collin County's dedicated stance on subduing drug riddance and prosecuting those distributing them.
The importance of these educational endeavors was further cemented by the Plano Texas Police Department's Narcotics Unit. An impactful presentation here complemented Skipper’s insights, delving deep into the threats posed by illegal substances such as cocaine, GHB, and methamphetamine, amongst others. The session went beyond mere words; participants were given the chance to inspect, in a controlled environment, actual drug samples, fortifying their understanding of the need to keep the streets free from these hazardous materials.
