A tragic incident occurred on Louisiana Highway 561 this past Wednesday evening. 35-year-old Jana Holman of Columbia lost her life in a head-on collision that involved her 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer and a 2015 Kenworth Commercial Motor Vehicle. The report indicated that she was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to an official statement from the Louisiana State Police.
Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F are actively investigating the crash, which occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. on September 17. The statement from Louisiana State Police revealed that the Trailblazer, for reasons yet under investigation, veered into the oncoming traffic lane and, directly collided with the commercial vehicle. The impact was severe, and Holman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Kenworth truck, who was buckled up, came through the crash unscathed — a fact which underscores the importance of seatbelt use. Whereas, investigations are in progress to determine if impairment played a role in Holman's fatal actions. "Impairment is suspected on the part of Holman," the Louisiana State Police reported, and routine toxicology samples were taken for analysis.
Louisiana State Police are using this incident to remind the public of the dangers of driving under the influence of intoxicants, including alcohol, prescription drugs, and other substances. "If you feel differently, you drive differently," they cautioned, emphasizing that such impairment could alter essential driving abilities like visual response, motor skill coordination, and reaction time. Furthermore, the public is advised to choose a sober driver ahead of time; the absence of such planning, can lead to deadly consequences.
