According to a social media post by the Columbus Division of Police, officers dispatched to the 1100 block arrived at a chaotic scene and heard sounds of gunfire. In the tumult, they discovered Mr. J'Vontia Cassell suffering from gunshot wounds.
The time was approximately 2:43 a.m. when the authorities found Mr. Cassell, who was swiftly transported to a local hospital for emergency medical attention. Despite the rigorous efforts of medical staff, Mr. Cassell's wounds proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased at 5:01 a.m. Another individual received treatment at the scene for a separate medical issue, amid a large crowd that was present during the incident.
The investigation into what unfolded that night is ongoing, with the Columbus Police Homicide Unit spearheading inquiries. Detectives are seeking digital evidence from the public to aid their investigation. They have made a call for videos, photographs, or other digital evidence that bystanders may have captured, urging individuals to submit this information anonymously, no account is required, using a QR code provided by the department.
