The community is preparing for Preston Lord Day today to honor the teen who died two years ago after an attack. According to abc15, Preston’s stepmother, Melissa Ciconte, said the family continues to pursue justice and advocate for policy changes to prevent teen violence.
William Owen Hines, involved in the attack, pleaded guilty to manslaughter earlier this year and is serving a 12-year sentence. His case is one of several tied to the incident, with other trials postponed to January 2026. Jacob Meisner remains in custody. A related policy effort, called Preston’s Law, aims to increase penalties for swarming-style attacks.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office stated that, aside from the prison sentence for Preston Lord’s death, Hines also received sentences for two unrelated attacks and a drunk driving crash, bringing his total prison time to 17 years followed by probation. The Lord family’s nonprofit, Justice 4 Preston Lord, will be offering free CPR classes to youth in the coming months.
