Attorney General Gentner Drummond has launched into action, calling for a probe into Roblox regarding child safety concerns in Oklahoma. Reports from OKC FOX, indicate that the popular online gaming platform is being scrutinized for not implementing "proper safety measures for adolescent viewers" or players.
Describing the nature of the content found on Roblox as potentially dangerous, Drummond highlighted the presence of game titles such as "Escape to Epstein Island" and "Diddy Vibe." Citing a statement released by Drummond, "When a platform that markets itself to children becomes a hunting ground for sexual predators, we will take action." This sentiment echoes across multiple states, as FOX23 has noted similar concerns nationally, with Louisiana filing a lawsuit against Roblox in August and Florida investigating the company earlier in the year.
The process of legal scrutiny is ongoing, with a call for a request for legal services to both investigate and potentially bring a lawsuit against Roblox. Roblox "lacks adequate safety measures and is 'overrun with harmful content and child predators,'" Drummond's office stated, as reported by KJRH. The deadline for proposals is set for October 3, amidst this heightening controversy.
Drummond's office has said it will evaluate the proposals and award based on a combination of merit, and economics. The rising concerns underscore the responsibility platforms like Roblox have to ensure the safety of their young users. "No company should profit should profit while Oklahoma children are put at risk, and we will hold Roblox accountable, if necessary, for creating an environment where our kids are not safe," Drummond told OKC FOX. The ongoing developments in Oklahoma reflect a growing concern about the intersection of technology, profit, and the welfare of children in the digital age.
