The Dakota-Scott Workforce Development Board is on the lookout for nominees to honor those who have made strides in improving local workplaces in Dakota and Scott counties. The awards will spotlight the commitments and successes of individuals, programs, and organizations in their respective categories and will be handed out during the board's annual Legislative and Employer Awards event happening in December.
From now until October 31, nominations are open for several award categories. Enthusiastic backers of workforce issues, be they at the local, state, or federal level, might find their names listed for the Mark McAfee Friend of Workforce Award. On the other hand, companies that have utilized CareerForce services, including job fairs and job postings, have the chance to be singled out for the Business Champion Award. Submissions can be made through the official Dakota County government site.
Recognition also goes to those who have integrated innovative or quality practices into their business models with the Bob Killeen Award, named after a committed WDB member and advocate for quality efforts. Meanwhile, the Willis E. Branning Excellence in Youth Employment Services Award will commend those who have dedicated themselves to equipping young people between the ages of 14 and 24, preparing them for the workforce, with two awards up for grabs, one for Dakota County and another for Scott County.
Local entrepreneurs aren't left out of the equation—the Bob Klas Sr. Entrepreneur Award will honor a standout in the business community that has shown impressive growth and leadership, as well as provided mentorship to other emerging entrepreneurs. Also, the Employer of the Year for People with Disabilities is a title reserved for a company that has actively worked to dramatically improve the lives of individuals with disabilities through providing employment opportunities.
With a range of categories to celebrate and acknowledge the work of those who contribute to the flourishing of the local workplace, the initiative hopes to continue encouraging such positive impacts within the community.
