In the heart of Oak Cliff, a vibrant affair unfolded as the A.C.T. Team, an initiative helmed by the Dallas Police Department, orchestrated a communal gathering that drew in a substantial crowd of residents for a day steeped in festivity and camaraderie. Last Wednesday, more than 250 people converged upon the community-focused event, which saw a slew of organizations and local establishments contributing to the celebratory atmosphere.
Assistant Chief Catrina M. Shead, in a moment of reflection on the importance of such gatherings, shared, "Events like this bring our communities together," according to the Dallas Police Department. Shead elaborated, "Now more than ever, it’s important that the Dallas Police Department helps create spaces where we can share joy and unity." The event featured complimentary delights courtesy of Chick-fil-A and Bear Creek Family Dental, who distributed free sandwiches and pizza, respectively, while the Dallas Police Wellness Unit and the N.L.L.E.O. ensured attendees stayed hydrated with cold water bottles.
The generosity was palpable, with contributions from entities like J.C. Phelps Recreation Center and Sam’s Club elevating the spirits of attendees through the gifting of coveted items such as gift cards and scooters. Meanwhile, animal lovers were enthused by the Dallas Zoo's distribution of tickets, and the City of Dallas’ Sanitation Department captured the crowd's fascination by showcasing their fleet of heavy-duty trucks.
