The Dallas Police Department is currently investigating an in-custody death that occurred following a reported shooting and subsequent arrest. According to a statement from the Dallas Police Department, officers responded to the call on Sunday at about 10:25 p.m. on the 1600 block of S. Hampton Rd.
The initial investigation revealed that a suspect was shot while allegedly trying to enter a home, leading to a minor injury. After the police arrived, the suspect was taken into custody for criminal mischief. Then, transported by Dallas Fire Rescue, the suspect received treatment at a local hospital before being moved to Lew Sterrett Jail.
While at the jail, the suspect experienced a medical emergency and was taken back to a local hospital by Dallas Fire Rescue. It was there that the suspect was pronounced deceased. As the case unfolds, the Dallas County District Attorney's Office has been involved and is set to conduct an independent investigation, while the Office of Community Police Oversight has also been notified.
