In the early hours of a September morning, DeSoto Police officers engaged in a high-speed pursuit, culminating in the arrest of a suspect behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle. According to a social media post from the DeSoto Police Department, the incident unfolded at approximately 2:35 a.m. when officers encountered a maroon 2002 Toyota van reported as stolen.
The pursuit began in the 1000 block of North IH-35E, and the driver, later identified as Dallas resident Luis Arquimidez Vidaurri, aged 30, led police through DeSoto roads. In a reckless bid to escape, Vidaurri drove eastbound in westbound lanes before ultimately abandoning the vehicle in Dallas, and, following a brief foot chase, Vidaurri was apprehended. "He is charged with Evading in a Vehicle, a third-degree felony, and Operating a Stolen Vehicle, a state jail felony," the DeSoto Police statement detailed. Vidaurri was also found to have an outstanding felony warrant related to Possession of a Controlled Substance.
During the pursuit, the authorities expressed relief that no citizens or officers sustained injuries. The statement from Patrol Division Captain G. Kirkland praised the efforts of the Charlie Shift officers for their swift response in apprehending Vidaurri, who also has an extensive criminal history related to vehicle burglaries. Vidaurri's past, intertwined with the law, again culminated in a chase that, while harrowing, ended without bodily harm to innocent bystanders or the officers involved.
