The Florida Highway Patrol is currently conducting a death investigation at the South Skyway Fishing Pier, an extension of the iconic Sunshine Skyway Bridge, following the discovery of a deceased person inside a vehicle. WFLA reports that troopers found a lone vehicle and a body after arriving at the scene on I-275, leading to an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
As a result of the investigative activity, the South Skyway Fishing Pier has been temporarily closed to the public. According to FOX 13 News, details regarding the cause of death or the identity of the individual are not available at this time, and authorities have yet to disclose any further specifics related to the incident. The sudden closure of such a popular fishing destination, naturally, has disrupted the Tuesday morning routines of local anglers and commuters alike.
Troopers initially arrived at the pier early in the morning, at approximately 4:44 a.m., according to a statement from WTSP. They encountered the scene that included just a single car and one deceased individual. Though little is known to the public, what has been made clear is the singular nature of this situation: one car, one person, one unexplained death.
