DeKalb County residents will have the chance to safely dispose of unwanted documents at a free paper shredding event hosted by the Sanitation Division. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Central Transfer Station, 3720 Leroy Scott Drive in Decatur. The initiative aims to help residents clear out clutter while protecting personal information.
One of the main perks of the event is the on-site shredding service, allowing residents to watch their documents securely destroyed. This provides peace of mind for disposing of sensitive materials such as tax records and legal papers, while also preventing trash bins from filling with weeks of discarded paperwork. Each participant may bring up to ten standard-size boxes of documents—ample space to clear out clutter, but with limits to keep the event manageable.
The shredding event is part of DeKalb County’s ongoing efforts to encourage recycling and responsible waste management. Beyond keeping neighborhoods clean, the initiative also focuses on protecting residents’ personal information. To ensure secure disposal, the county has partnered with A1 Shredding & Recycling, a trusted name in professional document destruction.
