Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1 & 2 welcomed a new ambulance to their fleet with a traditional "push-in" ceremony yesterday. The event took place at Station 513 on Copper Canyon Road in Lantana, where the community was invited to witness and participate in the festivities from 3-4 pm. The addition of the new ambulance, Medic 513, aims to provide faster and more efficient emergency responses, as stated by the Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1 & 2.
The incorporation of Medic 513 brings the total number of ambulances in the district to three, each one being strategically located to improve availability and to decrease response times for citizens in need. The push-in ceremony is more than just a nod to tradition—it's a commitment to providing the care they need when it matters most, illustrating a strong bond between the district and the community it serves. Rooted in history, the push-in ceremony hails from the 1800s when firefighters, after disconnecting their horse-drawn engines, had to manually push their equipment back into the station. Modern ceremonies maintain these roots, including the blessing of the new apparatus, a washing and drying of the vehicle, and the collective effort to push it into its new home in the station bay. This event signifies more than just the addition of hardware; it represents a unity and preparedness that binds the community in times of crisis.
